 ARTIST’S STATEMENT

IMG_0085.JPG

I find my inspiration through the painterly lens that exists uniquely behind my eyes. I look around at the structures and organisms of the natural world, and read about mathematical laws, and hear music that I love, and learn about microbiology. I churn colors, textures, and natural forms around in my mind and on paper. My work often takes on a very “academic” feel; underpainting showing, flavorful color choices, unfinished parts that display the classical oil painting process. Lust for academia meets my wild, effervescent heart.

I have a mental quirk known as Synesthesia, which causes different parts of my brain to ignite when other senses are activated. For instance, every number and letter has an assigned color in my mind. I’m still trying to identify other forms of synesthesia for me, but I believe there is a strong connection between the colors and shapes I see in my mind, and physical activity and my sense of touch. Thus, the process of creating physical artwork with movements from my body is a sacred one for me.

My work invites a tangy appreciation of the organic structures of the natural world. It invites focus onto the heart & stories of nature, onto our place in the midst of it, and the way that all of heaven and earth were created to teach and nourish the human family. It ignites the soul of anyone who wishes to deepen their sense of wonderment. The child in every one of us still exists, and it wants to see everything as if for the first time.

My work enables me to seek out the meaning in my surroundings in multifaceted ways - through visuals and words, on top of abstract thoughts and feelings. It helps me to have faith that the best parts of my existence in the universe are currently hidden from my view.

The Vineyard Collection is an outpouring of living, humming truth; about root
I want to make out with this painting and I am not ashamed.
The best part of it is still to come: GOLD DETAILING - gilded roots, snaking, reaching, intertwining.
